Hello,
I’m Harry Barnes Jr., Managing Member/Chief Executive Officer of T&D Services. We are a family-founded, employee-owned power delivery firm based in Albuquerque, New Mexico that provides a range of engineering and surveying solutions to electric utility industry entities.
Power engineering is in my blood. When I co-founded T&D with my dad, Harry Barnes Sr., in 2007, he had more than 25 years of experience in power line design and high-voltage power engineering. He came to the industry after the mining sector, where he had worked, failed in Grants, New Mexico, in the early 1980s. He joined an engineering firm in Arizona where he worked on line designs, line extensions, and surveying for the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority and other organizations. One of the most exciting aspects of that work was that he directly contributed to bringing power to areas that had never had it before.
I got my first taste of the power delivery industry as a seventh-grader, working with my dad on weekends and during school breaks. When I got a little older, I started working part time on survey crews. Later, as a project engineer, I prepared design books for transmission and distribution power lines ranging from 34kV-230kV. I also created a series of spreadsheets using complex macros and functions to calculate design specifications.
When the opportunity presented itself for my dad and me to start our own high voltage power engineering company, I was working for an investment management firm where I managed $250 million in net assets and handled policy and tactical asset allocation formulation and implementation, portfolio construction, manager and security selection, risk control, stress testing, cash management, liquidity management, performance tracking and benchmarking, securing lines of credit, and credit facilities.
My solid background in strategic business management ensures the financial stability and fiscal responsibly of T&D. This, coupled with our vast engineering expertise, is what makes our company so successful. We have grown from five employees to 50, and our current team has a combined 800 years of experience in the engineering industry.
Our growth is directly tied to our dedication to customer service and commitment to providing innovative solutions to our clients. We built a reputation based on honesty and integrity during our early days working with utility service cooperatives. We now also work with municipalities, industrial power users and others. Through organic growth and acquisition, T&D has expanded to serve the mechanical, electrical and processing (MEP), and water/wastewater markets.
This level of diversification outside the core power delivery services is what sets T&D apart from its competitors. We also take an interdisciplinary, unified approach that allows us to provide a full range of services to our clients. Our work has primarily been in the Four Corners Region, but we are also licensed in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and California.
We approach each project from the customer value standpoint. Our goal is to provide maximum-value engineering and support to match a client’s specific project needs, schedule and budget. Contact me today at hbarnesjr@t-d-services.com to discuss your engineering needs.
Sincerely,
Harry R. Barnes Jr.
