Rural Electric Cooperative Station and Transmission Line

project2

Location: Central New Mexico
Cost: $4.1 million
Completed: 2015

T&D delivered an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) solution by building a new substation and transmission line for its client.  The project was multi-faceted and included: 1) 115/14.4/24.9kV Substation; and 2) a 6-mile 115kV Transmission Line.

T&D’s turnkey contract included layout, legal surveying, preliminary design and cost estimate, soil testing, final design, bills of material, equipment specification and procurement, construction, construction review, field inspections, communications, testing and commissioning of the facilities. T&D and our high-voltage subcontractor worked cooperatively and diligently to identify design, engineering, and construction efficiencies to maximize value.

T&D’s expertise with station design and three-dimensional CAD modeling of the various components facilitated variations in the transmission line routing and an efficient installation at the site.   The new station and line are connected to an existing 115 kV transmission line. The new six-mile line extension was built to match the existing line construction type using concrete and steel poles.  Competitive bids for the transformer were solicited and much of the other equipment was selected to match the client’s stock of re-closers and breakers purposely maintaining consistency with other nearby substations.  The design services included complete relay and control panel designs, panel wiring and cable connection diagrams, and shop drawings for station steel and foundations.
